How to show darkness and light at the same time?

The inspiration for this painting came from the reflections of light on water but it’s not an attempt to realistically depict water.

I was more interested in what these reflections might say about us.

We can be surrounded by light and still remain in the shadows.

We can have places within us that are full of light, and others that weren't reached yet.
